Junior Home International Fell Running Success

On Saturday, 16 September two of our Sixth Formers were flying the flag for Ermysted’s on the National Stage as they represented England ‘A’ Team in the Junior Home International Fell Running Championships held at Peebles Scotland. This is a high level competition in which the best English runners battle it out with their Welsh, Scottish and Irish counterparts.  The British and Irish Junior Mountain Running Championships is hosted in turn by each of the participating countries and this year Scotland hosted the competition.

Joe and Tom, both in Y12, were members of the all-conquering England team, having been selected following their excellent performances at the England trial and other fell races this year. From the start, the England team were to the fore (thanks to Dave, Woodentops for the photo) with Joe leading the way. Following a gruelling, uphill battle the field spread out with a trio of England runners leading the way. Joe was in the middle and won an individual Silver medal with Tom not far behind the leaders in 6th place. The team won the title to gain Team Gold to go with their international vests!

Not a bad return and hopefully a prelude of things to come this year for the school at Cross-Country.
